Short on the +5v supply.

Postby john.kg9dk » Wed Aug 07, 2013 5:55 pm

I am on step 20 and decided to go back to step 16 and load the software drivers and check out the receiver. that is when I discovered the short. Back in step 12 I did check out the power supply and it was OK that included the two large chips which I had installed when I brought the kit. the ohm meter showed a direct short and doing a visual I found P1 +5 was shorted to ground. I cleared that and no longer had a direct short, but there was still a problem. I remove the +5 v regulator and it checked OK out of the circuit, I have lifted the input leg of the three volt regulator but still appears to have a lot current flow on the +5v.

I can not find any documentation on the layout showing the +5v traces. Right now the resistance to ground looks OK but my bench supply still showing lot of current. Any suggestions welcome.
