Need compatible PCM3060

Postby k1qn » Wed Jul 01, 2015 12:15 am

I thought I'd start a new thread now that I have the little bugger safely off the board. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlSY1uaw0GA

Where can I get a totally compatible chip?

I needed to replace one on one of my Peaberrys. Digikey.com has them.

Which version? I think there are 4.

Cool! I ordered the ...PWR version, and the tech at DigiKey said it's the same as ...PW, but with different packaging.

I should have it back on the air shortly!

...in theory ... I still haven't discounted demonic possession. However, being a man of science, I have to admit it would be 3rd or 4th in probability. :-)

For those following the adventure:

I got the replacement, and soldered it in. The LED was solid-on, PowerSDR found the sound card, but there was no sign of it on transmit or receive. I noticed one of the pads was moving, and assumed one of the pads broke free due to constant re-soldering.

The kit is the first homebrew or kit project to fail in over 50 years.

My bad!

It's a great kit, and I don't rule out getting another... if they're available again. A great learning experience, and I wound up with some good test gear and methodology.

Hi Al,

No problem in that, check the schematic and use an Ohm-meter to find out what pads are gone or are short-circuited. .

Then replace the missing connections by pieces of the magnet wire left over from winding the coils and transformers (gauge #30 or thinner, if you have some). Tin then ends of the wire pieces carefully before soldering them to the pins of the PCM30360 and the remaining circuit (most likely the U11). You may need small bores in the circuit board for threading the wires.

I had a similar problem but was lucky to use also UBUNTU and QUISK so that I always could ask what audio devices are alive and available after correcting a wiring error

By the way, did you check whether your demon may bear the name "WINDOWS" and his sword are his "power settings" which shut down or suspend the programs or (USB) devices after a certain time to save power?

Good luck and 73's

Thanks. The pad that moved was 14 which is a no connection. It's in bubble wrap in a drawer for now. I need a break. :-)

I'm on the notification list when the kits are available again.
