SW connection problem

Postby pilotcfii » Wed Apr 08, 2015 5:56 pm

My PB works and I have successfully had a couple dozen QSO;s with it. So far in order to make it work, I need to have HRD as a control layer between WSJTX and HDSDR. If I don't have that up, I can't get PTT to work. I am using the Kenwood TS-50S model and have virtual COM ports 21 & 22 set as the connection between WSJTX and HDSDR.

When I have HRD in the mix, it use DDE as the connection between HRD and HDSDR.

The control error I get is: Rig Failure - Hamlib error: Protocol error while getting current mode.

COM ports are set to 8-1-n. PTT is set to CAT in WSJTX and in HDSDR it is set to "Enable Tx button for 'CAT to HDSDR.

WSJTX uses COM 21 and HDSDR uses COM 22.

I think I should be able to simplify and not have to use HRD.

Hi Dan,
Yes, you are correct. You do not need HDR. I have just brought up WSPR-x (v0.8 R3058) and it works just fine. I don't use virtual comports but that should not matter (I just prefer the hardware approach and use to USB/RS232 adapters). Obviously configurations must match up but I have
WSPR-X:
Serial Rate: 57600
COM9 (use whatever you have)
Handshake: None
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
PTT method: CAT
Enable CAT (checked)
Rig: 201 Kenwood TS-50S

HDSDR:
CAT to HDSDR
Port: COM10 (use whatever you have on the other side of the virtual com ports)
Baudrate: 57600
PTT Activation Pins: None (Cat only)
Activated (checked on)

Thanks Ron. I am setup the same as you except for the COM port numbers and the fact that WSJTX setup does not offer an Enable checkbox for CAT. When I press the "Test CAT" button I get the protocol error.

Hi Dan,
I'm sorry I'm such a dope some times. I thought you were talking about WSPR-X. I see you are using WSJT-X.

However it is pretty much the same deal:
Rig: Kentwood TS-140s (Note, I think this is different. I believe I could not get TS-50 to work).
Poll Interval: 1s
Serial Port: Com9
PTT Method: CAT
Baud Rate: 57600
Data Bits: Eight
Stop Bits: One
Handshake: None
Force Control Lines: Nothing checked.
Mode: USB
Split Operation: None

OK that worked.....sorta. I made the change to Kenwood TS-140S and then pressing the CAT Test button gets no error and a green for go button instead of red for no-go. Closed the Setup window and almost immediately got an error. That may be a virtual COM throughput problem, but I am out of time to try it. I will get to it later this evening....maybe. (New ANAN 100D is coming home with me).

Thanks for the help Ron.

Hi Dan,
Well, I don't think we will see you on the forum any time soon. Have fun with the new rig.
