Trashed my BS170 - What BS170 part to order?

Postby KD8IGK » Wed Feb 18, 2015 1:15 am

OK I have figured out I trashed the BS170's on my 30-15M Peaberry. What part number should I order for a set of replacements and from what vendor?

Believe it or not I bought a 10 pc batch on Amazon. The specs seemed to compare with those found on Mouser and Digi-Key.

Jameco has a 10 pack for $1.50

Mouser sells them for 44 cent each in onesies.

On another thread Digikey PN BS170-ND was recommended along with the statement that as long as it's Fairchild, it's probably good enough. See viewtopic.php?f=4&t=506

Update - In addition to replacing the BS170's I fired it up and found I also had a bad solder joint arcross L9. I do not understand how the thing worked before with the bad solder joiunt on L9. This was my first Peaberry V2 kit and once assembled it worked right away without any issue. Anyway it is all fixed now and delivers 1.9 watts output. I dial that back to 1 watt in consdieration of any possible IMD artifacts.

Sounds like it was L9 all along. Bad soldering is sometimes only revealed after a mechanical or thermal change.
