Engineering Change: U2

Postby AE9RB » Mon May 20, 2013 6:02 pm

The 5V regulator used for U2 is generating too much noise in some cases. The same regulator is used for U1 where it does not cause problems. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the batch or the manufacturer. I switched to a different manufacturer and the problem went away.

If your U2 is marked "50Z" then it should be replaced with one marked "17-50". Kits ordered after May 10 already have the replacement part. If you ordered before that date then I have already sent you a replacement. No need to ask, just look for it in the mail.

I was just notified that the NXP regulator with the problem has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Everyone who got a bad part should have their replacement by now. Contact me directly if you haven't.
