UK source for the PRTR5VOU4D

Postby G0XAR » Wed Dec 26, 2012 11:54 am

Hi everyone,

I managed to let the smoke out of my PRTR5VOU4D (U3). Does anyone know where I can source a new one in the UK? I have tried RS and Farnell and neither seem to stock them.

FWIW I mistakenly soldered the PRTR5VOU4D in backwards. I noticed this at step 15. When I connected the Peaberry up to my lab PSU it drew 0.43 amps at 12 volts which I thought was rather excessive. If that did not let the smoke out of the PRTR5VOU4Dn the removal process did. To remove it I made a mask out of aluminium foil to isolate it from the rest of the components. I then used a hot air embossing gun to desolder the chip, even so it lost two legs :-(. This might be God's way of telling me that I need a proper hot air rework station for future SMT projects...

Ho Hum, onwards and upwards,

I suspect the legs burnt out from the power supply. This is an optional part. It provides additional ESD protection for the PSoC. Just leave it out and finish the build. Let me know when you are done building and I'll send you a new one.
